Rolls-Royce: 3D-Drucker könnten bald Flugzeugteile herstellen

Motorenteile, frisch aus dem 3D-Drucker: Das könnte schon bald in Derby im Rolls-Royce-Werk Realität werden. Der britische Triebwerkbauer will die Produktion von Flugzeugkomponenten beschleunigen und leichtere Teile herstellen. „3D-Drucker eröffnen neue Möglichkeiten und neue Designformen“, sagte Henner Wapenhans, Technologie-Stratege bei Rolls-Royce, gegenüber der Financial Times. „Beim Drucken müssen Sie kein Werkzeug benutzen, um Ihrem Produkt eine Form zu geben. Sie können jede Form schaffen, die Sie sich wünschen.“ Rolls-Royce zufolge könnte die Technologie dabei helfen, das Gewicht von Flugzeug-Motorenteilen zu verringern – zum Beispiel bei Klammern und Bügeln. „Es gibt Studien, die zeigen, dass man mit 3D-Druckern bessere Leichtstrukturen schaffen kann, die sich mehr daran orientieren, was die Natur macht und wie Knochen aufgebaut sind“, sagte Henner Wapenhans.
